Congratulations to the Winfield Pirate Softball Team
AREA 12 Champs!! They were undefeated in tournament play beating Winston County 10-0, Hamilton 4-0 and Cordova 12-0 in the final. The Lady Pirates advance to the Regional Tournament in Tuscaloosa. The Pirates will play on Friday, May 10th at 9:30 and 12:30.

Big Jerry’s Cookout on Thursday, May 9th
“The Winfield Touchdown Club is hosting a Big Jerry’s Cookout on Thursday, May 9th, at the Winfield Community Center. Lunch will be served from 11 – 1 and dinner will be served from 4 – 7. Coach McKinney will be there in the afternoon meet families and friends of Winfield Football so come out and join the fun.
Winfield Football players, Cheerleaders and Booster Club members are selling tickets: Steak plates for $12 and grilled Chicken Plates for $10. Lunch plates will be delivered starting at 10:30 am to local businesses for orders of ten or more.

Softball Game Rescheduled
Today’s softball game vs. Winston County has been cancelled for today.
The game is rescheduled for tomorrow at 4:00 at Winfield High School Field.
Cross Country Sign-up for 2013 Season
Any Winfield City Schools students currently enrolled in grades 6-11 interested in running Cross Country in the fall, should contact Coach Dawn Guin dguin@winfield.k12.al.us before May 6 to pick up your summer training plan.
May 6 is the deadline to begin training, and no new runners will be added to the team after May 6.
Coach Guin will meet with middle school students interested in Cross Country on Tuesday, April 30 at 1:35 in the WMS lunchroom.
WCHS Ranks 15th in State
In US News and World Report’s 2013 survey of high schools nationwide, Winfield City High School is proud to announce its rank of 15th in the state of Alabama, earning the school a silver medal. Winfield has been highly ranked in the state for many years, but the silver medal is cause for celebration and school spirit.
Winfield is the only rural school included in Alabama’s top 15 list, which includes schools in Birmingham, Montgomery, and Auburn.
Congratulations to Winfield’s students, teachers, and administration for continued academic excellence and recognition!

Winfield defeats Good Hope
Winfield Pirates swept Good Hope in round one on Friday and Winfield will play at home Friday at 5:00 and 7:30 and if needed Saturday at 2:00 in the second round of baseball playoffs.
News from the Band
The Winfield Pirate Band has begun fund raising for their spring trip. On Monday April the 15th, students began selling The World’s Finest Chocolate bars for $1 each. The students will receive half of the profit and can only use it for band related purposes. Each student will either be selling Almond, Carmel, or Crunch. Anyone interested may contact a band student and buy one. Also, the students will be selling Pancake Breakfast tickets for $7. Supporters can choose from either Sausage or Bacon, and to drink coffee, milk, or orange juice. Breakfasts will be ready to pick on April 20th at the High School gym.
The band will be adding another wonderful aspect to their halftime show next year. Along with Color Guard and Majorettes, there are plans to debut a dance team.
Color Guard and Majorette clinics will be $25, and held at the high school band room on April 22nd – April 25th. Tryouts will be April 26th, Majorettes will be judged at 5pm, and the Color Guard will be judged at 5:30.
Dance line clinics will be $25 and will be held May 6th – May 9th. The tryouts will be May 10th at 5pm.
Any girls interested in any of these need to see Mr. Garner as soon as possible.
